Natural gray stones, flat and smooth • 22 lb

Black slate engraving and drawing stones offer a flat, smooth, and matte surface ideal for laser engraving, calligraphy, painting, and any artistic or craft application. Their medium to dark gray hue and rounded edges make them an exceptional natural support, hand-selected for their uniform surface. The matte slate appearance creates a striking contrast with ink, paint, or engraving.

Unlike standard decorative stones or mirror-polished surfaces, these stones are specifically sorted for their flatness and surface quality, two essential criteria for laser engraving and sandblasting. Their natural density ensures stability during use and optimal adhesion of pigments and inks. Maintenance is minimal: simply wipe with clean water before use. The natural matte surface evenly absorbs engraving agents and pigments without any prior treatment.

What size should be chosen for laser engraving? For laser engraving, the 2–3″ and 3–4″ sizes are ideal: their larger surface provides more working space and a more readable result. The 1–2″ size is better suited for small designs or fine calligraphy.
Is the surface really flat on all stones? These stones are specifically sorted for their flatness and surface quality, but as this is a natural material, slight variations exist. The 3 lb sample is ideal for checking flatness before placing a bulk order.
Can you paint directly on these stones without a primer? The natural matte finish provides good adhesion for acrylic paint, ink markers, and calligraphy. A primer can be used for oil paints or to seal the final result.
Are these stones suitable for outdoor use once engraved? Yes, natural slate is weather-resistant. To preserve engraving or paint outdoors, it is recommended to apply a UV-resistant clear sealer after finishing.
